As part of the White Water to Blue Water (WW2BW) initiative, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation has recently funded proposals to facilitate and strengthen partnerships in support of sustainable development in the Wider Caribbean.

NOAA International Coral Reef Grants Announcement for Fiscal Year 2008

The NOAA International Coral Reef Conservation Grant Program, as authorized under the Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000, provides matching grants of financial assistance for international coral reef conservation projects.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ocean Fund Offers Support for Marine Conservation Work

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which operates Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, established the Ocean Fund in 1996 to support marine conservation organizations working to preserve the world's oceans.

CATHALAC Caribbean Water Prizes (PLACA)

The PLACA Water Prizes objective is to recognize, and disseminate innovative solutions to some of the most demanding issues related to water management and conservation in the region. Likewise, it seeks to honour outstanding local, national and regional efforts and best practices that serve as examples to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, most of which are water-related.

JAMAICA PROTECTED AREAS TRUST / FOREST CONSERVATION FUND

The Governments of Jamaica and the United States, together with The Nature Conservancy, concluded an agreement on September 21, 2004, (under the United States' Tropical Forest Conservation Act), to reduce Jamaica's debt to the United States by nearly US$16 Million dollars. In return, the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) has committed to providing these resources to fund projects to conserve and restore important tropical forest resources throughout the island. The final value of the agreement is US$15,989,527.34 to be paid, in scheduled installments over a period of 19 years, into a Fund established for tropical forest conservation in Jamaica, namely the Forest Conservation Fund of Jamaica.

Small Grants Programme - Sustainable Fisheries UNEP-CEP Small Grants

With funding provided by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife Programme (SPAW) of the Caribbean Environment Programm (CEP) is making available a Small Grant Fund for promoting sustainable fishing practices and alternative livelihoods for fishers in 2006.

CARIBBEAN REVOLVING FUND FOR WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT (CReW)

UNEP has recognized the need for a permanent, dedicated multi-country fund for wastewater management projects in the Caribbean basin. The fund should be flexible enough to operate in countries with highly developed capital markets such as Mexico and at the same time able to invest in rural micro-credit facilities in less-developed countries such as Haiti.
