World Wildlife Fund-US Seeks Managing Director for its Fisheries Program
World Wildlife Fund-US (WWF-US) seeks a Managing Director to lead initiatives to reshape global fisheries with a particular emphasis on WWF's priority marine ecoregions (Gulf of California, MesoAmerican Reef, The Bering Sea, Coral Triangle and Coastal East Africa). WWF's Fisheries Program seeks to move global fisheries toward both ecological and economic sustainability. The position leads the organization's strategy and work in key market areas to produce measurable results on a national and global level in order to conserve biodiversity loss.

Major Functions
- Leads WWF-US initiatives to reshape global fisheries with a particular
- Oversees the Fisheries Program's Sustainable Seafoods Initiative, which works with the seafood and fishing industry to promote ocean conservation in the context of its seafood purchasing and fisheries practices.
- Leads WWF's efforts to promote ocean conservation at the national and global policy level, including reduction of bycatch in fisheries, in order to conserve biological diversity.
- Works with multilateral institutions, including the World Bank, to promote international policies that advance WWF's conservation objectives.
- Responsible for building and managing a cross-functional team. Supervises the work of the Fisheries Program staff in Washington, D.C. and Palo Alto, California.
- Integrates the Fisheries Program's work with the broader priorities of WWF-US and the WWF International network.
- Collaborates with colleagues at WWF-US to ensure the success of program-related communications, development and administrative endeavors.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for achieving the targets and objectives of WWF-US's Fisheries Program.
- Responsible for ensuring the success of efforts to integrate the work of the Fisheries
- Program with conservation objectives in WWF-US priority marine ecoregions.
- With staff from the Development Program, leads effort to secure funding for the Fisheries Program.
- Supervises the work of Fisheries Program staff and consultants.
- Leverages Fisheries Program assets and expertise by building relationships with the other WWF programs and external partners.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Relationships
Internal:
- Supervises WWF-US Fisheries Program staff and consultants.
- Works closely in collaboration with program staff, conservation science program staff at specific marine sites, as well as with development and communications staff.
- Interacts frequently with executive management team to advise, plan and develop cohesive program efforts.
- Communicates regularly with other department heads to coordinate U.S. Fisheries Program projects with other activities in the organization.
- Reports to Vice President (Markets).
External:
- Principle liaison with all senior government, private sector and civil society leaders in the field of ocean and fisheries conservation.
- Interacts with representatives of WWF-International and other WWF national organizations to discuss and coordinate program activities.
- Interacts with representatives of international treaty organizations, national government agencies, conservation organizations and major donors (for fundraising efforts).
- Maintains professional reputation at an international level through regular contact with managers from other conservation organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, and other colleagues.
Minimum Requirements
- Ten years experience and knowledge in international fish and wildlife conservation policy or law, land use and natural resources management, with demonstrated success in developing and managing a complex conservation program. Experience in implementing and activating partnerships within an organization or institution is desired.
- Master's degree in natural resources management, biological sciences, environmental law, public policy or a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Proven ability to manage a professional staff in a timely fashion, direct formulation of multi-dimensional conservation programs and policy, and to work sensibly and effectively with inter-disciplinary staff.
- Diplomatic and cultural skills essential to work with a broad array of individuals.
- Global experience in developing countries is strongly preferred.
- Successful fundraising experience desired.
- Experience working with the broader NGO community or private sector is an advantage.
